Role Overview

A Network Administrator is responsible for the daily operation, monitoring, and support of an organization’s network infrastructure. This includes LAN/WAN systems, routers, switches, firewalls, wireless networks, and network related services. The role ensures network availability, performance, and security for all users.

Key Responsibilities

• Network Maintenance — Manage, monitor, and troubleshoot LAN/WAN infrastructure, switches, routers, and wireless systems.

• System Monitoring — Use monitoring tools to track performance, uptime & security events.

• Security Management — Implement firewalls, VPNs, access controls, and security policies.

• User Support — Provide technical support for network related issues & escalate when needed

• Configuration Management — Configure and maintain network hardware, IP addressing, VLANs, and routing protocols.

• Backup & Recovery — Maintain network documentation, backups & disaster recovery procedures

• Vendor Coordination — Work with service providers for internet, hardware & software support.

• Policy Enforcement — Ensure compliance with organizational IT policies and standards.

Required Skills & Competencies

• Networking Protocols — Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, VPNs.

• Hardware Expertise — Experience with routers, switches, firewalls & wireless access points.

• Security Knowledge — Familiarity with IDS/IPS, encryption, and access control.

• Troubleshooting — Ability to diagnose and resolve network issues quickly.

• Documentation — Maintain accurate network diagrams, configurations, and logs.

• Communication — Ability to explain technical issues to non technical users.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field (preferred).

• Certifications such as: CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA, Microsoft MCSA, etc.

• 2–5 years of experience in network administration or IT support.
