Diesel Mechanic – Construction

The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, repairing, and servicing diesel-powered construction machinery and heavy equipment. The role ensures that machinery functions safely and efficiently to support day-to-day site operations with minimal downtime.

Key Responsibilities

1. Maintenance & Repair of Heavy Equipment

Perform diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on diesel-powered equipment such as:

Excavators

Loaders

Bulldozers

Dump trucks

Generators

Rollers

Backhoe loaders

Repair or replace faulty components including engines, fuel systems, injectors, pumps, hydraulics, and transmissions.

2. Troubleshooting & Equipment Inspection

Identify mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical issues in equipment.

Conduct regular inspections to ensure machinery is operating safely.

Respond quickly to breakdowns and carry out on-site repairs when required.

3. Preventive Maintenance

Perform scheduled servicing such as oil changes, filter replacements, lubrication, and adjustments.

Maintain preventive maintenance records and follow manufacturer guidelines.

Ensure all equipment is serviced on time to avoid breakdowns.

4. Record Keeping & Reporting

Maintain logs of all repairs, maintenance, and service activities.

Monitor spare parts inventory and notify the supervisor of requirements.

Prepare reports on equipment condition and repair history.

5. Safety & Compliance

Follow safety protocols and use correct PPE during maintenance activities.

Ensure all repairs meet safety and performance standards.

Report unsafe equipment or working conditions immediately.

6. Coordination

Work closely with site engineers, equipment operators, and maintenance supervisors.

Assist in planning and scheduling equipment maintenance tasks.

Provide technical advice to operators on proper equipment use.

???? Skills & Qualifications

Technical certificate or diploma in Diesel Mechanics, Heavy Equipment Maintenance, Automotive Engineering, or related field.

2–5 years of experience in repairing and maintaining construction equipment.

Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and heavy machinery.

Ability to read equipment manuals and diagnose faults accurately.

Good physical fitness and ability to work in outdoor conditions.

Basic knowledge of safety practices in construction environments.

Preferred (Optional)

Experience with GCC construction companies.

Ability to operate basic machinery for testing.

Familiarity with CAT, Komatsu, JCB, Volvo, and other major equipment brands.
