Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and hands-on Operations Manager to oversee all aspects of our fabrication workshop. The ideal candidate will be a strategic leader with a deep understanding of the technical and operational challenges in aluminium and steel fabrication. You will be responsible for managing production, ensuring quality standards, optimizing workflows, and leading our team of skilled fabricators, welders, and technicians.

Key Responsibilities

· Production Management:

· Plan, organize, and oversee the day-to-day fabrication operations to meet production targets, on-time delivery, and quality standards.

· Develop and implement production schedules, capacity planning, and resource allocation.

· Monitor workflow and processes to identify bottlenecks and implement effective solutions.

· Quality & Safety:

· Enforce a strict quality control system throughout the fabrication process, from raw material inspection to final product.

· Ensure all work complies with industry standards (e.g., AWS, AISC), project specifications, and safety regulations (OSHA).

· Champion a culture of safety, conducting regular audits and promoting best practices to maintain a zero-accident environment.

· Team Leadership:

· Lead, mentor, and motivate a team of supervisors, fabricators, welders, and machine operators.

· Manage workforce planning, including training, performance reviews, and skill development.

· Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment.

· Resource & Cost Management:

· Manage inventory levels of raw materials (aluminium extrusions, sheet metal, structural steel) and consumables.

· Control operational budgets and implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising quality or safety.

· Oversee the maintenance and optimal utilization of fabrication machinery (e.g., CNC punch presses, laser/plasma cutters, press brakes, welding equipment).

· Process Improvement:

· Continuously analyze and improve fabrication processes using Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and other continuous improvement methodologies.

· Drive initiatives to increase productivity, reduce waste, and enhance overall operational efficiency.

Qualifications & Experience

· Essential:

· Proven experience (5+ years) in an operations management or plant management role within an aluminium and/or steel fabrication environment.

· Strong technical knowledge of metal fabrication processes: cutting, bending, welding (MIG, TIG), machining, and assembly.

· In-depth understanding of the properties and behaviors of aluminium and steel.

· Demonstrated experience with reading engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T.

· Solid knowledge of quality control systems and health & safety protocols in a manufacturing setting.

· Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

· Proficiency with MRP/ERP systems and Microsoft Office Suite.

· Highly Desirable:

· Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Business Management, or a related field.

· Experience in the Tensile construction, architectural, structural steel, Balexco, Technal, Installux, Rayners, Fabrication industry.

· Formal training or certification in Lean Six Sigma, Kaizen, or other process improvement methodologies.

· Hands-on experience with CNC programming and/or CAD/CAM software.
