Position Title: Hydrostatic Test Technician
Department: Safety / Mechanical Integrity / Maintenance
Location: Site-based (Onshore/Offshore as required)
Reports To: Operations Supervisor / Testing Supervisor
Position Summary
The Hydrostatic Technician is responsible for performing hydrostatic pressure testing on pipelines, hoses, cylinders, vessels, tanks, manifolds, breathing-air systems, and other pressurized equipment to ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations. The technician ensures test integrity, accurate documentation, and safe execution according to company procedures and client requirements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Test Preparation
Inspect equipment before testing: hoses, pipes, cylinders, SCBA bottles, breathing-air systems, pressure vessels, etc.
Set up hydrostatic testing rigs, pumps, charts/recorders, gauges, and fittings.
Prepare fluids and ensure correct filling/bleeding procedures.
Verify test area isolation and safety barricades.
2. Conducting Hydrostatic Tests
Perform hydrostatic pressure tests according to ASME, API, NFPA, or client standards.
Apply correct pressure levels and maintain required hold times.
Monitor gauges or digital sensors for pressure loss.
Identify leaks, deformation, or failures and report immediately.
Ensure safe depressurization and draining after tests.
3. Equipment Handling & Calibration
Maintain hydrostatic pumps, pressure gauges, test manifolds, and hoses.
Ensure calibration schedules for gauges and test equipment are up to date.
Troubleshoot pump issues, leaks, and faulty fittings.
4. Documentation & Reporting
Record pressure charts, digital logs, and test results accurately.
Issue certificates of test completion and compliance.
Maintain daily reports, checklists, and equipment logs.
5. Safety & Compliance
Ensure all testing complies with company HSE policies.
Use correct PPE (gloves, eye protection, face shields, safety boots).
Report unsafe conditions, failures, or equipment concerns.
Follow permit-to-work and isolation standards.
Qualifications & Experience
Diploma or technical certificate in Mechanical, Petroleum, or Industrial Technology.
1–3+ years of experience in hydrostatic testing (oil & gas preferred).
Knowledge of pressure-testing standards (API 510/570, ASME B31.3, NFPA).
Experience with hydrostatic pumps (manual or powered).
Ability to read pressure charts and understand test parameters.
Basic mechanical skills (fittings, hoses, valves).
Skills & Competencies
Strong mechanical aptitude.
Understanding of pressure systems and safety.
Ability to identify leaks, faults, and equipment failures.
Good communication and teamwork.
Strong attention to detail.
Ability to work in harsh/on-site environments.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift 20–30 kg occasionally.
Comfortable working outdoors, in confined spaces, or at height (if required).
Able to work long shifts, rotational schedules, or offshore
