Job Description – Workshop Carpenter

Position Summary

The Workshop Carpenter is responsible for the fabrication, assembly, finishing, and repair of wooden products, including custom furniture, exhibition stands, display units, cabinetry, and other joinery items. The role requires the ability to interpret technical drawings, operate woodworking machinery safely, and deliver high-quality workmanship within project deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

* Read and interpret technical drawings, shop drawings, and production specifications.

* Measure, mark, cut, shape, assemble, and install wooden components according to project requirements.

* Manufacture custom furniture, cabinets, shelving, display units, exhibition stands, kiosks, and other woodwork items.

* Operate woodworking machinery and hand tools, including table saws, panel saws, routers, planers, sanders, drills, CNC machines (if applicable), and other workshop equipment.

* Assemble products using appropriate joinery methods, adhesives, screws, fittings, and hardware.

* Perform sanding, edge finishing, fitting, and preparation for painting, laminating, veneering, or polishing.

* Ensure products meet quality standards, dimensions, and customer specifications.

* Repair or modify existing furniture and wooden structures as required.

* Select appropriate materials and minimize waste through efficient use of timber, plywood, MDF, laminates, and related materials.

* Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment.

* Conduct routine maintenance and cleaning of tools and machinery.

* Follow production schedules and complete assigned tasks within deadlines.

* Assist with loading, unloading, packing, and preparing finished products for transportation or site installation.

* Coordinate with supervisors, designers, production teams, and installation crews to ensure smooth project execution.

* Comply with all company policies, quality standards, and health & safety regulations.

Required Skills and Qualifications

* Proven experience as a carpenter or joiner in a woodworking or furniture manufacturing workshop.

* Experience in custom furniture, interior joinery, exhibition stands, or display fabrication is preferred.

* Ability to read technical and shop drawings.

* Good knowledge of woodworking materials, hardware, laminates, veneers, and finishing methods.

* Proficiency in operating woodworking machines and power tools.

* Strong measuring, cutting, assembly, and problem-solving skills.

* Good attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.

* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

* Physically fit and capable of lifting materials and standing for extended periods.

Health & Safety Responsibilities

* Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.

* Operate machinery safely and only after proper training.

* Report unsafe conditions, damaged tools, or equipment immediately.

* Follow workshop safety procedures and emergency protocols.

* Keep work areas clean and free from hazards.

Preferred Experience

* 3–5 years of experience in woodworking, furniture manufacturing, exhibition stand production, or interior fit-out.

* Experience with CNC woodworking equipment is an advantage.

* Knowledge of laminate application, veneering, and furniture hardware installation is preferred.
