Senior HVAC Engineer / Mechanical Engineer (HVAC) — Project/Program Delivery

Job Purpose

Lead the delivery of HVAC projects from design through installation, testing, commissioning, and handover, ensuring scope, schedule, cost, quality, and HSE compliance in line with PMP project management best practices.

Key Responsibilities

– Manage end-to-end HVAC projects: scope, schedule, budget, quality, risk, procurement, and stakeholder communication using PMP methodologies.

– Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams (consultants, contractors, vendors, commissioning teams) to meet project objectives.

– Review and approve HVAC design deliverables, calculations, specifications, shop drawings, material submittals, and method statements.

– Develop and maintain project plans and controls (WBS, baseline schedule, cost plan, progress reporting, forecasting).

– Coordinate with other disciplines (architectural, structural, electrical, fire/life safety, BMS/controls) and resolve clashes and interface issues.

– Monitor site execution to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, codes, and contractual requirements.

– Manage change control (variations/claims), support pricing, evaluate impacts, and participate in negotiations as required.

– Ensure compliance with applicable standards and codes (e.g., ASHRAE, SMACNA, local codes/authority requirements as applicable).

– Lead testing, commissioning, and TAB activities; ensure completion of punch lists and readiness for handover.

– Ensure proper submission and approval of as-built drawings, O&M manuals, warranties, spare parts, and training documentation.

– Provide regular management reports (progress, risks/issues, corrective actions, lessons learned).

– Enforce HSE requirements and promote safe work practices on all project activities.

Qualifications

– Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).

– 10+ years** of proven experience in HVAC design/execution and project delivery, preferably on large-scale projects.

– PMP certification (mandatory)** and demonstrated application of PM processes.

– Solid knowledge of BOQ, specifications, contracts, tendering, and project documentation.

Technical & Leadership Skills

– Strong hands-on knowledge of HVAC systems (as applicable): chilled water systems, VRF/VRV, DX, AHU/FCU, ductwork, hydronic piping, ventilation, smoke control.

– Proficiency in planning and reporting tools (Primavera P6 and/or MS Project preferred).

– Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

– Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and risk management capability.

– High standard of technical documentation and reporting.

– Professional proficiency in English (Arabic is a plus, depending on the role).

– On-time and on-budget delivery (schedule/cost variance).

– Quality compliance (NCR closure rate, rework reduction).

– Commissioning/TAB success and smooth handover outcomes.

– Change order control and claims management effectiveness.
