GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide occupational therapy support to clients at Reach. The Occupational Therapist will perform screenings, assess patient condition, and design therapy and treatment plans to help the client develop. You should be caring and knowledgeable about occupational therapy conditions and therapies. Must be experienced and competent in profession and maintain any applicable license, training, or and certifications.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Serve as a team member with Reach and assist with all aspects of occupational therapy support.

2. Work collaboratively with team members and other professionals associated with Reach to provide student IEP information.

3. Communicate appropriately and effectively with team members, parents and other professionals associated with Reach.

4. Develop, monitor and support the working standards of Occupational Therapists working within Reach.

5. Participate in Staff training.

Support services:

1. Knowledge of Occupational Therapy theories, principles, models of practice and application

2. Knowledge in Sensory Integration theory and practices

3. Knowledge of human development/developmental milestone throughout the life span

4. Ability to articulate the role of Occupational Therapy in the evaluation, intervention planning and intervention process

5. Ability to analyze tasks relative to areas of occupation, performance skills, activity demands, contexts, and student factors to implement the intervention plan

6. Ability to recognize occupational performance deficits in the areas of personal care, student role/interactive skills, processing skills, play, community integration, and written communication

7. Skill on gathering screening and evaluation data, completing checklist, histories, and interviews

8. Ability to select, adapt, and sequence relevant occupations and purposeful activities that support intervention goals

9. Skill in oral and written communication

10. Ability to maintain safe environments, equipment, and materials

11. Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records and progress notes

12. Willingness to be educated and trained for specific program implementation

13. Initiative, strong work ethic, and the ability to positively interact in a team environment

14. Complete thorough evaluation, including muscle tone, range of motion/mobility,

15. Perceptive/fine motor skills, sensory motor processing, and functional activities of daily living

16. Educate and demonstrate (verbally or written) therapy techniques to parents or caregivers that can be incorporated at home

17. Develop and implement an intervention plan to meet the individual needs of the child

18. Attend staff meeting, in-service training, and continuing education courses as appropriate or required

19. Participate in staff training on implementation of individual support plans and related data collection

20. Assess and make recommendation regarding the use of adaptive equipment as needed and provide written justification

21. Responsible for timely documentation of evaluation results, daily notes and progress reports

22. Maintain professional competency by attending certified CEU in-services and workshops

23. Keeping detailed records relating to patient conditions, care plans, therapies, and progress

24. Reporting progress and current status to appropriate parties, which may include family members, teachers, or medical professionals.

25. Maintain system for recording IEP goals and objectives and behavioral data.

26. Follow students’ schedule of services

27. Seek input and maintain effective communication with other therapists and Clinical Director.

28. Assist in crisis response strategies of individuals demonstrating harmful behaviors

29. Maintain client confidentiality

30. Assist Occupational Therapists and Clinical Director in case management functions and discharge planning

31. Report any suspected abuse, neglect or exploitation to appropriate authorities

32. Perform other duties as assigned

33. Ensure the health and safety of clients we serve

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Minimum of two years of recent work experience as an occupational therapist

2. Graduation from an occupational therapy program

3. Strong understanding of occupational therapy-related conditions, causes, and treatments.

4. Excellent coaching and verbal and written communication skills.

5. Proficiency with computers.

6. Attentive and caring with the ability to develop individualized education plans (IEPs).
