A MIG (Metal Inert Gas) Welder fabricates, repairs, and joins metal parts using wire-feed welding equipment, adhering to blueprints and safety standards. Key responsibilities include setting up welding machines, cleaning materials, inspecting welds for quality, and maintaining equipment. These professionals often work in manufacturing, construction, or automotive industries.

Key Responsibilities

Welding Operations: Use MIG welding guns to join metal components, including steel and aluminum, based on technical specifications.

Equipment Setup: Adjust welder settings—amperage, voltage, wire feed speed, and gas flow rate—for optimal, defect-free welds.

Interpretation: Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work orders to plan, lay out, and execute welding tasks.

Quality Control: Inspect finished products for cracks, leaks, or defects to ensure structural integrity.

Material Preparation: Cut, grind, clamp, and tack-weld components into position prior to the final weld.

Maintenance & Safety: Perform routine maintenance on equipment and adhere strictly to safety guidelines (e.g., wearing protective gear).

Job Requirements

Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Experience: Proven experience as a MIG Welder is generally required, often 1-3 years, or relevant vocational training.

Skills: Strong technical knowledge of metal properties, proficiency with hand and power tools, and ability to read blueprints.

Physical Strength: Ability to lift heavy materials and work in various positions for extended periods.
