Job Title: Safety Officer

Department: Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)

Job Summary

The Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety (OHS) regulations, promoting a safe work environment, and preventing accidents, injuries, and environmental hazards. The role involves monitoring workplace activities, conducting inspections, and implementing safety policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and enforce health and safety policies and procedures

• Conduct regular site inspections, risk assessments, and safety audits

• Identify potential hazards and recommend corrective and preventive actions

• Ensure compliance with local, national, and international safety regulations

• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses; prepare detailed reports

• Conduct safety training, inductions, and toolbox talks for employees and contractors

• Monitor use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe work practices

• Maintain safety records, permits, and documentation

• Coordinate emergency preparedness and response plans

• Liaise with management, regulatory authorities, and external auditors

• Promote a strong safety culture across the organization

Qualifications & Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or related field

• Professional safety certification (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA) preferred

• 2–5 years of relevant experience (industry-dependent)

• Strong knowledge of health and safety laws and regulations

• Excellent observation, reporting, and communication skills

• Ability to conduct training and enforce safety standards

• Proficient in MS Office and safety reporting tools
