HEAVY EQUIPMENT WORKSHOP FOREMAN

Maintenance / Engineering / Operations

Key Responsibilities

Supervision & Leadership

• Supervise mechanics, technicians, and apprentices in daily workshop activities

• Assign jobs and prioritize work based on operational needs

• Provide technical guidance, training, and performance feedback to staff

• Ensure discipline, attendance, and productivity within the workshop team

Maintenance & Repairs

• Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance of heavy equipment (e.g., excavators, loaders, dozers, cranes, trucks)

• Diagnose complex mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical faults

• Ensure repairs comply with manufacturer specifications and company standards

• Verify completed work before equipment is released to operations

Planning & Scheduling

• Plan and schedule maintenance activities to minimize downtime

• Coordinate with operations, procurement, and logistics teams

• Monitor job progress and adjust priorities as required

Safety & Compliance

• Enforce workshop safety rules, procedures, and use of PPE

• Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and legal requirements

• Conduct toolbox talks and safety briefings

• Report and investigate incidents and near misses

Inventory & Tools

• Monitor usage of spare parts, consumables, and tools

• Assist with ordering parts and maintaining inventory levels

• Ensure proper care, calibration, and storage of tools and equipment

Reporting & Documentation

• Maintain maintenance records, job cards, and service reports

• Prepare daily, weekly, or monthly workshop reports

• Track equipment availability, downtime, and repair costs

Qualifications & Experience

• Technical diploma or trade certification in Mechanical Engineering, Diesel Mechanics, or related field

• 5–10 years’ experience in heavy equipment maintenance

• Previous supervisory or foreman experience preferred

• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, transmissions, and electrical systems
