HVAC Technician – Job Description

Job Summary:

An HVAC Technician installs, maintains, and repairs heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems in residential, commercial, or industrial buildings. The technician ensures systems operate efficiently, safely, and according to regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

Install HVAC systems such as furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, and ventilation units

Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical and electrical problems

Perform routine maintenance (cleaning, replacing filters, checking controls)

Test system performance and airflow

Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals

Ensure compliance with safety standards and local building codes

Explain system operation and maintenance to customers

Keep accurate service and repair records

Required Skills & Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent (technical training preferred)

Basic knowledge of HVAC systems, tools, and equipment

Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues

Good communication and customer service skills

Physical ability to lift equipment and work in tight spaces

EPA certification (or willingness to obtain)

Work Environment:

Residential homes, commercial buildings, or industrial sites

May work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions

May require evening, weekend, or emergency calls
