Restaurant Dishwasher / Cleaner

Job Summary:
The Restaurant Dishwasher / Cleaner is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, and safe environment across the kitchen, dishwashing station, storage areas, and, when required, the dining area. This role ensures that all kitchenware, utensils, and equipment are washed, sanitized, and returned to service promptly to support smooth kitchen operations. The position also performs general cleaning duties to uphold hygiene standards and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Dishwashing & Sanitation
Operate commercial dishwashing machines and hand-wash items as required.
Clean and sanitize dishes, glassware, pots, pans, utensils, and kitchen equipment according to hygiene standards.
Sort and organize clean items and return them to proper storage locations.
Maintain cleanliness of the dish pit area, including sinks, drains, and surrounding surfaces.
Ensure proper use of cleaning chemicals and adherence to safety guidelines.
2. Kitchen & Equipment Cleaning
Clean kitchen surfaces, preparation tables, cutting boards, stovetops, and appliances.
Remove food waste, clean spills promptly, and maintain hygienic work areas throughout the shift.
Conduct deep-cleaning tasks such as scrubbing floors, cleaning grease traps, and sanitizing equipment based on schedule.
Assist with waste disposal, including separating and managing recyclable and non-recyclable items.
3. Facility Cleaning
Sweep, mop, and sanitize floors in the kitchen, storage rooms, and back-of-house areas.
Clean restrooms and staff areas if required by the operational schedule.
Maintain cleanliness in receiving areas, loading points, and waste disposal zones.
Stock and replenish cleaning supplies and notify management when items need restocking.
4. Compliance & Safety
Follow all food safety and hygiene standards (e.g., HACCP guidelines).
Adhere to health, safety, and sanitation policies as mandated by local regulations and company procedures.
Report any equipment malfunction, safety hazard, or maintenance need to the supervisor immediately.
Wear protective and safety equipment at all times (gloves, apron, nonslip shoes).
5. Operational Support
Assist kitchen staff with basic tasks such as organizing storage shelves, collecting used dishes, or transporting supplies.
Support front-of-house teams during peak hours as needed (removing trash, clearing tables, etc.).
Participate in daily closing procedures and shift handovers.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements
No formal education required; high school diploma or equivalent is preferred but not mandatory.
Previous experience in dishwashing or cleaning roles is an asset but not required.
Skills and Competencies
Strong understanding of hygiene and sanitation practices.
Ability to operate dishwashing equipment safely.
Physical stamina to stand for long periods, lift items up to 20–25 kg, and perform repetitive tasks.
Attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness.
Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Basic communication skills and ability to follow instructions.
Working Conditions:
work hours: 12h with one day OFF
Fast-paced kitchen environment with exposure to heat, moisture, and cleaning chemicals.
Evening, weekend, and holiday shifts may be required.
Frequent standing, bending, lifting, and carrying tasks.
Work may involve noisy and high-traffic environments.
Performance Indicators:
Cleanliness and sanitation levels maintained in dishwashing and kitchen areas.
Timeliness and accuracy in returning clean items to service.
Compliance with health and safety standards.
Positive feedback from kitchen and management teams.
Minimal equipment damage or operational disruptions.
